Hon. Dr. Makali Mulu’s development record in Kitui Central Constituency is increasingly becoming a key part of his political agenda as he positions himself to seek the Kitui County governorship in the 2027 General Election.

Mulu, who has represented Kitui Central in Parliament since 2013, has built his political profile around constituency development, parliamentary representation and advocacy for improved access to government services and opportunities for residents.

Over his years as Member of Parliament, Mulu has focused on initiatives touching on education, infrastructure, youth empowerment and community development. Through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), various projects have been implemented across Kitui Central, including support for learning institutions and other community facilities.

Education has remained one of the major areas associated with Mulu’s constituency development agenda. The constituency has benefited from bursary support for students from disadvantaged families, as well as development and improvement of facilities in schools. The interventions have sought to ease the financial burden on families while improving the learning environment for students.

Infrastructure and improvement of public facilities have also featured in his development record. Various community projects undertaken through constituency-based programmes have aimed at improving access to essential services while supporting local economic activity.

Mulu has also consistently highlighted the need to empower young people and create opportunities for residents to improve their livelihoods. His constituency engagements have included support for youth initiatives and programmes intended to strengthen participation in economic activities.

Beyond constituency projects, Mulu has established himself as an active voice in Parliament, particularly on matters concerning economic development, public finance, infrastructure and the welfare of communities in Eastern Kenya.

His experience in Parliament is now expected to form a major pillar of his campaign as he seeks to transition from constituency leadership to county-wide leadership.

If elected governor, Mulu is expected to present his experience in national government and constituency development as a foundation for managing Kitui County. His emerging agenda is likely to focus on strengthening healthcare, education, water access, roads, agriculture, youth empowerment and economic opportunities across the county.

The 2027 gubernatorial contest is expected to attract several political figures, making development credentials, leadership experience and the ability to articulate a county-wide vision important considerations for voters.

For Mulu, his more than a decade in Parliament provides a record that he can point to as he seeks to convince Kitui residents that he is ready to take on the broader responsibility of leading the county.

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, scrutiny of his development record in Kitui Central is expected to increase, with residents likely to assess both the achievements and challenges of his tenure.

Mulu’s gubernatorial bid therefore represents a transition from representing one constituency to seeking a mandate to lead the entire Kitui County—putting his development record, legislative experience and vision for the future firmly at the centre of the 2027 political debate.

Ends.
